Recognition badges

Small honors on a neighbor’s profile, like Founding Member or 10 Years a Resident. They recognize people and never unlock anything.

What badges are

A badge is a small colored pill the board gives a neighbor: Founding Member for the first residents, 5 Years a Resident and 10 Years a Resident for long-time neighbors, or anything the board makes up, like Volunteer 2026. Badges are recognition only. They carry no permissions, and there are no points, rankings or streaks behind them.

Where they show

Your badges appear on your profile, on the profile card neighbors see when they tap your name, and on your card in the board directory if you serve on the board. Hovering a badge shows its description.

Hiding your badges

Open your profile, expand Privacy Settings, and turn off Show my badges to neighbors. Your badges then disappear from everything other residents can see; you and the admins still see them. Turning it back on shows them again, and hiding never removes a badge.

For boards: setting badges up

Badges live on /admin/badges (Admin → Recognition Badges), which needs the Users module’s admin permission. Add a badge with a name, an optional description, an icon and a color, and choose whether an admin gives it or it is given automatically after a number of years as a resident. Each badge can be edited, switched off, or deleted.

Switching a badge off hides it everywhere but keeps the record of who held it, so you can switch it back on later. Deleting a badge takes it away from everyone who held it. Founding Member can be switched off but not deleted.

For boards: automatic badges

Founding Member and the years-a-resident badges are given overnight to everyone who qualifies. Founding Member goes to residents who joined within 90 days of the community’s first resident on Neighbors.fyi, and you can change the number of days. Years as a resident count from when someone joined the portal or first linked their address, whichever came first.

For boards: giving and removing

To give a badge by hand, open the member in User Management and use Give a badge on their Overview tab, with an optional note. The small x beside a badge removes it. A removed automatic badge is never given back by the nightly run. Giving and removing badges is recorded in the audit log.
